Longarm Preparation

🌟Steps to Longarm Success:

·         Prepare your sandwich ingredients:

o    Your quilt top:

§  Make sure it is pressed, squared up, and that loose threads are removed.

§  If there are lots of seams along the edge of the top, please secure your quilt top edges with a “Victory Lap” by stitching 1/8” around the 4 sides of the top.

§  Please mark the top of your quilt with a safety pin.

o    Your batting:

§  I will happily use your “Frankenbatting” that you have zigzag stitched or fused with batting tape. Please make sure the batting is reasonably squared up and carefully folded so that it doesn’t stretch out or come apart at the joins.

§  Batting should be 4” - 6” larger than the quilt top.

§  I have batting on hand if you need it. See the batting section below for details.

o    Your quilt back:

§  Backing should be 6” larger than the quilt top.

§  Make sure it is pressed, squared up, and that loose threads are removed.

§  Please mark the top of your backing with a safety pin.

·         Get it to me!

o    Drop it off:

§  If you live in the Boston area or would like to take a road trip, free drop-off and pickup is an option for you!

§  Get in touch and we’ll arrange a date and time.

o    Mail it:

§  If you live anywhere else in the United States, you can ship your quilt.

§  Please wrap it in a plastic bag inside a box and insure the package.

§  If you are only sending the quilt top and backing, no batting, please make sure that the box you use is large enough to hold the finished quilt with batting. I’ll use your packaging to return the quilt.

§  Some postage rates include insurance, but you may wish to add to it when purchasing your label. Check the options available with the shipping service you choose.

·         When your quilt is finished:

o     You can pick it up.

§  We’ll schedule a time to meet and reunite you with your quilt.

§  If you are a fellow member of the Proper Bostonian Quilters, I’ll bring your quilt to a meeting or day camp event for you.

o    I’ll mail it back!

§  I’ll ship the quilt back to you in your original packaging.

§  The postage and insurance costs will be added to your invoice. No handling fee is added.
