Traditionally samplers were worked by young girls to practice stitches and to hone their needlework skills. This rug is Carol's take on sampler making in the form of embroidery on felted wool. While she chose to make traditional, round pennies, she also incorporated other shapes, as well as different wool patterns, stitches, and 4 antique mother of pearl buttons. This penny rug's diamond shape and tone on tone color scheme and the nod to "Home" in the center give it a lot of visual interest. The entire rug is hand stitched with Valdani perle cotton. The back of the rug is a complimentary tweed wool. It is 24" long x 13 1/4" wide.
